The 5 Golden Rules On Logo Design

We can agree that designing a logo is one of the hardest tasks to accomplish. Not only will it represent the company’s image throughout the years, but it also has to communicate a list of services and products with just one icon.  To make this task a little easier, we’ve come up with a list of rules that will help you accomplish the best proposal for your clients.

1) Gather Information

First and foremost, it’s impossible to design a logo without knowing all of the details about the company you’re working for. Try to gather as much information about products and services offered by your client. When coming up with the concept, keep it simple and look for everyday insights to represent it in the best way possible –and carry a notepad everywhere you go!

2) Sketch… Sketch… Sketch!

Does opening your design platform and having nothing to come up with sound familiar? Remember to sketch! Many people don’t apply this golden rule, so when trying to have the best proposal follow this vintage step, and sketch… sketch… sketch!

3) Keep It Monochromatic

We all know that a beautiful color palette and gradient options sound really captivating for a logo design, but the best logo proposals are done in monochrome. Don’t use more than two or three colors; you can always work modifications with more colors, gradients and 3D elements from your foundation.

4) Watch The Tiny Elements

A very detailed logo proves how dedicated you can be, but keep in mind that too many tiny elements can be lost when re-sizing it, especially for smaller print work like a business card. The best practice for you is to set up a sizing chart from 1 cm width x height, to a bigger size. It has to work properly for both billboards and personal cards.

5) Trust In Your Design

If you have a lot of cool ideas and ended up with about twenty logo options for your client, make sure to edit and only show them the best ones. For this you have to really trust in your design. When presenting too many options, the whole process could be delayed and can result in plenty of unexpected changes.
