Latest News: Livestreaming And Collage Now On Facebook

14 Dec Posted by in Social Media | 1 comment

BIG NEWS, EVERYONE!

Livestreaming will now be available on Facebook. Yes, you read that right. Here is the 411:

Facebook will now provide a feature that allows iPhone users in the United States to show your friends what you’re seeing in real time.

Now, my first thoughts when this came out was that the concept was eerily similar to Periscope and Meerkat. So, is Facebook trying to up their game in the competition to beat these two? Hold on, there’s more.

On Facebook’s livestream, you can discover live videos from your friends and public figures you follow right in your News Feed. While watching a live video, you can also use the subscribe button to get notified the next time a broadcaster goes live.

Want to see what public figures, like the Rock, are up to?! No problem with Facebook’s Live Video!

How can you share a live video?

Tap on Update Status and then select the Live Video icon.

You can write a description and choose the audience that you want to share with before going live. During your broadcast, you’ll see the number of live viewers, the names of friends who are tuning in, and a real-time stream of comments. When you end your broadcast, it will be saved on your Timeline like any other video, which you can then delete or keep for your friends to watch later. Pretty sweet, right?

No offense Facebook, but you’re kind of late to the game. There’s already Pic Sitch, Layout from Instagram, and other collage-making apps that groups photos together to share a story.

To be fair, Facebook’s collage feature allows photos AND videos to be grouped together into a scrolling, moving collage. When you’re done creating the collage, you can add a title before sharing, so that’s a newer concept.

How do you set up collage?

When you tap on Photo on your Newsfeed, you’ll see recent moments from your camera roll organized into collages based on when and where you took them. You can edit your collage by adding, removing or re-arranging the photos/videos that you want to include. Collage is available on the iPhone now and will be on Android devices early next year.

Okay, so maybe I was originally a little too harsh on Facebook. I think they’re doing a good job of keeping up with the latest trends and competitors. After all, most major brands are now using livestreaming to market to Millennials. Personally, I’m pumped to create a collage made up of videos and photos. What are your thoughts? Will these features be a game changer, or is Facebook too late to the party?
