Facebook Unveils ‘Facebook At Work’

28 Dec Posted by in Apps, Trending | Comments

Hi everyone!

There’s been so much talk about Facebook recently, so I thought I’d continue jumping on that bandwagon. As most of us already know, Facebook is most commonly associated with social networking, messaging, and of course the newsfeed to see what others in our circle are doing.

However, Facebook is starting to expand their network’s purpose. Now, instead of saying, “get off Facebook!” to your co-workers, you’ll be telling them to log into Facebook at Work. Sounds like a whole new world, right?

Facebook at Work is exactly what it sounds like. It’s Facebook, but designed specifically for your company and co-workers. To set up a work account, your company must be using Facebook at Work. The app will be available on mobile and desktop. Initially, the app is targeting companies with 100 or more employees. Currently, it’s used by the Facebook Staff. When Mark Zuckerberg makes an announcement, he reportedly posts it on Facebook at Work. Facebook started beta-testing the service in January and has kept it as a free, “invite-only” service for companies so far. You can share documents today, but for now there will be no in-app editing, which leaves this open as something that might be available in the future.

Don’t worry, Facebook at Work users will have special profiles that are distinct and separate from their existing personal Facebook profiles. With a Facebook at Work account, you can use Facebook tools to interact with coworkers. Things you share using your work account will only be visible to other people at your company.

Facebook at Work is expected to launch in the app store  in a few months, so keep your eyes peeled. The service will be open to all companies once launched and Facebook plans to charge a “few dollars per month per user” for premium services such as analytics and customer support, according to a company spokeswoman.

What do you think? Is it another new thing for employees to learn? Do you feel its necessary in the workforce? Will it replace Skype and other communication apps used at work? Would you want to use this?  Let us know!
